# PostgreSQL

> PostgreSQL from the distribution, listening on localhost only.

PostgreSQL installed, initialised and started at boot, in the version your distribution ships. It listens on localhost only, so nothing is exposed until you choose to open it.

## Details

- Installs on: Ubuntu and Debian; AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux and Fedora
- Smallest plan: Budget (1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM)
- Public ports: none (nothing listens publicly)
- Project site: https://www.postgresql.org/

## After the server is ready

1. Run `sudo -u postgres psql` to get a prompt.
2. Create a role and database for your app.
3. To reach it remotely, prefer an SSH tunnel over opening port 5432.

## Order it

Pick PostgreSQL in the order form, or use `"app": "postgresql"` in the API or `rack4 servers create --app postgresql`. See [all one-click apps](https://rack4.io/apps) and [plans](https://rack4.io/plans).
