# Rack4: Linux VPS hosting with KVM and NVMe

> Self-managed Linux VPS hosting in New York: KVM, NVMe storage, root access, one IPv4 address (IPv6 pending), one-click apps and a 14-day money-back guarantee.

Build time: Ready for SSH in under 59 seconds, from a confirmed payment. Measured on our New York hardware on 30 October 2026: 4 Extreme servers created at once by our staff with Ubuntu 24.04, each answering SSH with the key in place within 20 seconds. The first build of a system on a host can take longer while its image downloads, and apps keep installing after SSH answers. [How it was measured](https://rack4.io/blog/what-59-seconds-means.md)

Plans: Budget (1 shared vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe, 2 TB transfer), Standard (2 shared vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB NVMe, 4 TB transfer), Extreme (4 shared vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 160 GB NVMe, 8 TB transfer). Every server has full root, its own kernel, one IPv4 and one IPv6 address (IPv6 once our allocation is approved), a serial console in the browser, snapshots, a firewall, an API and the rack4 CLI.

Add-ons, per server: extra ram per 1 GB ($3.50 a month or $35.00 a year), extra vcpu per core ($4.00 a month or $40.00 a year), extra nvme per 20 GB ($2.50 a month or $25.00 a year), transfer pack per 1 TB a month ($2.00 a month or $20.00 a year), extra ipv4 each ($3.50 a month or $35.00 a year). Yearly add-ons are 10 times monthly.

Software: 28 one-click apps installed on first boot (Docker, Coolify, nginx + Certbot, Caddy, LEMP stack, WordPress, Node.js LTS, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Redis, WireGuard VPN, Tailscale, Uptime Kuma, n8n, OpenClaw, Minecraft (Paper), Vaultwarden, Nextcloud, Ghost, Plausible Analytics, Jellyfin, AdGuard Home, Forgejo, Umami, Matrix Synapse, BookStack, Immich, Ollama + Open WebUI). Operating systems: Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Fedora and Arch Linux, from official cloud images.

Payment: Bitcoin, billed monthly or 12 months up front (yearly), with invoices priced in US dollars. Bitcoin is paid through Rack4's own self-hosted BTCPay Server. 14-day money-back guarantee on the first order; Bitcoin refunds are paid in Bitcoin or as account credit. A yearly term renews for another 12 months unless cancelled; cancelling stops the next renewal, and unused time isn't refunded outside the money-back guarantee.

## Current status

- Accounts: open at https://my.rack4.io
- Server orders: open
- Prices: in US dollars: Budget $7.99/month ($84.00/year), Standard $12.99/month ($139.00/year), Extreme $24.99/month ($269.00/year)
- Location: New York, United States, the only location
- IPv6: included in every plan, not live yet. IPv6 is part of every plan, but our IPv6 allocation is still being approved: until it's in place, servers have an IPv4 address only.
- Management: self-managed. You get root and run the server (updates, security, software); Rack4 runs the hardware, the network and the panel.
- Off-site backups: an optional paid add-on, priced per plan (see plans.json). Snapshots stay on the server's host and are not backups.

## Plans

- **Budget**: 1 shared vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe, 2 TB transfer; $7.99/month or $84.00/year
- **Standard**: 2 shared vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB NVMe, 4 TB transfer; $12.99/month or $139.00/year
- **Extreme**: 4 shared vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 160 GB NVMe, 8 TB transfer; $24.99/month or $269.00/year

Add-ons (extra RAM, vCPU, NVMe, transfer and IPv4) go on any plan, up to each plan's limit, and are billed for the same term; RAM and vCPU changes need a restart. Order at https://my.rack4.io/servers/new; the order form reads `plan`, `term=yearly`, `addon_<kind>`, `os` and `app` from the link. Every figure is on [the plans page](https://rack4.io/plans).

## Available on every plan

Some of these are choices you make, like an app at order time or an alert rule later. Every feature, each with its guide, is on [the features page](https://rack4.io/features).

- **28 one-click apps**: Pick one when you order, such as Docker, WordPress, Coolify or WireGuard, and it's installed on the first boot.
- **Six Linux distributions**: Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky, Fedora and Arch, from official cloud images.
- **Snapshots and rescue**: Manual and scheduled snapshots, a serial console in your browser, and rescue mode to recover a server that won't boot.
- **Firewall and alerts**: A firewall per server, usage graphs, and alerts by email, Slack or Discord.
- **API and command line**: Manage servers through the REST API and the rack4 CLI, and receive signed event webhooks.
- **Teams**: Invite people with roles for billing, technical work or read-only access.

## Why Rack4

- **Support from the operators**: Support tickets go to the people who run the platform.
- **Bitcoin or PayPal**: Pay in Bitcoin through our self-hosted BTCPay Server, or use PayPal. Invoices are priced in US dollars.
- **Monthly or yearly**: Pay monthly, or pay for 12 months at once and save up to 12%. If you cancel, the server runs until the end of the period you paid for; unused time isn't refunded.
- **14-day money-back**: Request a refund within 14 days of paying for your first order.

## Questions

### Where are the servers?

In New York, United States. It's our only location: every server and its IPv4 and IPv6 addresses are there. (IPv6 once our allocation is approved)

### Is Rack4 managed hosting?

No, it's self-managed. You get root and run the server yourself: system updates, security, the software you install and copies of your data are yours to look after (off-site backups are an optional add-on). We look after the hardware, the network and the platform, and support tickets go to the people who operate it. The [Terms of Service](https://rack4.io/terms) set out who looks after what.

### Do you back up my server?

Backups are optional. You can add daily, encrypted [off-site backups](https://rack4.io/help/off-site-backups) of the whole disk for an extra charge, priced per plan ([plans page](https://rack4.io/plans#addons)); they're kept with another storage company, and you can restore one to the same server or into a new one. [Snapshots](https://rack4.io/help/snapshots) stay on the server's host and help undo a change; they're deleted with the server and don't replace backups. Keep separate copies of important data and database dumps as well: [Back up your server](https://rack4.io/help/backups-you-should-run) shows how.

### Can I add memory, disk or IPv4 addresses later?

Yes, as [add-ons](https://rack4.io/help/add-ons): extra RAM, vCPUs, NVMe disk, transfer and IPv4 addresses, up to a limit for each plan. Choose them when you order or later from the server's page; they're billed for the same term as the server, and RAM and vCPU changes need a restart. Their prices are on the [plans page](https://rack4.io/plans#addons). If you outgrow the limits, order a bigger plan and move across: [Choosing a plan](https://rack4.io/help/choosing-a-plan) walks through it.

### Can I send email from my server?

Outbound port 25 is blocked by default on new servers, to keep spam off the addresses everyone here shares. Most apps can send through a mail service on port 587 or 465 instead. If you run a real mail server, open a support ticket; we review it and open port 25 for that server. See [sending email](https://rack4.io/help/open-port-25).
