# Rocky Linux 9 VPS

Run Rocky Linux 9 on a Rack4 KVM server with NVMe storage, one IPv4 address (IPv6 pending), installed from the official cloud image.

## Why Rocky Linux 9

Rocky Linux 9 is a community rebuild of RHEL 9, binary-compatible with it. Technically it's very close to AlmaLinux 9; the reason to pick it is that your team, tooling or vendor already standardises on Rocky.

## When to pick something else

Without that reason, AlmaLinux 9 does the same job, and AlmaLinux 10 is here if you want the newer RHEL base. We don't offer Rocky Linux 10.

## Support window

Rocky Linux 9 gets security updates from the Rocky Linux project until May 2032.

- **General support** (until May 2027): Security fixes, bug fixes and the updates that follow RHEL 9's minor releases.
- **Security support** (until May 2032): Security fixes only.

## Upgrading

Point releases arrive with `dnf upgrade`. Rocky Linux doesn't support in-place upgrades between major versions, so moving to a newer one means a new server.
