Priced in dollars, paid on-chain

Every invoice is in US dollars. When you choose to pay with Bitcoin, BTCPay shows the BTC amount, an address and a QR code, and holds that rate while the checkout is open. We take on-chain Bitcoin; Lightning and other coins aren't supported.

Send the exact amount the checkout shows. Your wallet's network fee is paid on top and doesn't count toward it.

Monthly or yearly

Monthly invoices can be paid in Bitcoin just like yearly ones. Yearly billing covers 12 months in one payment, and the server renews a year later; you can switch term for the next renewal from the server's page. Yearly prices sit next to the monthly ones on the plans page.

The 14-day money-back guarantee covers your first order, monthly or yearly, in full.

How checkout works

  • Pick a plan, an operating system or a one-click app, and your SSH keys in the panel. The order makes an invoice in US dollars.
  • Choose "pay with Bitcoin" on the invoice. BTCPay's checkout opens with the amount, an address and a QR code.
  • Send the payment from any wallet. The invoice page follows it as it confirms.
  • When BTCPay counts the payment as settled, the build starts and we email you the server's address. It is ready for SSH in under 59 seconds. Measured on our hardware, four Ubuntu 24.04 servers built at once each answered SSH with the key in place within 20 seconds; the first build of another system on a host can take longer while its image downloads (how we measured it).

An order left unpaid for 7 days lapses. If a checkout runs out before you've paid, open the invoice and choose "pay with Bitcoin" again for a fresh one.

Confirmations and payments that go wrong

A payment counts once it has the confirmations BTCPay asks for. While a payment for the full amount is waiting for them, a renewal's suspension or deletion, or the lapse of an unpaid order, is held off for up to 72 hours past its date. If it still hasn't confirmed by then, the usual dates apply.

  • Paid after the checkout ran out: the full amount still pays the invoice if the invoice is open and its order or server is still there. Otherwise, the US dollar value we received becomes account credit.
  • Paid less than the invoice: once the checkout runs out, what arrived becomes account credit and goes toward the invoice, so you only pay the rest.
  • Paid too much, or paid twice: the extra, or the second payment, becomes account credit at the invoice's exchange rate, rounded down to the cent.

Credit pays your open and future invoices before anything else. For anything not covered here, open a support ticket in the panel, or email hello@rack4.io, with the invoice number and your transaction ID. Payment methods has more detail.

Refunds in Bitcoin

If you ask for a refund within 14 days of paying for your first order, we refund the invoice's US dollar value. You get a claim link from BTCPay, enter your own Bitcoin address, and the BTC amount is calculated when you claim it. You can take it as account credit instead. Any part paid with account credit comes back as credit, and accounts suspended for abuse aren't refunded. The Terms of Service have the details.

What Bitcoin does and doesn't keep private

No outside payment company sits between you and us, and paying in Bitcoin needs no card or bank details. BTCPay sees the invoice number and the amount, not your name or email address.

This isn't anonymous hosting. You need a Rack4 account with a confirmed email address, and Bitcoin payments are public on the Bitcoin network, as they are for any Bitcoin payment. Our privacy policy lists what we keep.

Bitcoin VPS questions

Do I need an account to pay with Bitcoin?

Yes, a Rack4 account with a confirmed email address, so we can send your invoices and server details. No name, card or ID is needed to pay.

Which coins do you accept?

Bitcoin, on-chain. Lightning and other cryptocurrencies aren't supported. Payment methods lists the other ways to pay.

Can I pay for a year at once?

Yes. Choose yearly billing and pay 12 months in one payment. It renews yearly; you can cancel before the renewal. Monthly billing works with Bitcoin too.

What if the Bitcoin price moves?

Invoices are in US dollars. The BTC amount is fixed while your checkout is open, so the price moving during a payment doesn't change what you owe.

What happens if I don't renew?

The server is suspended 3 days after the renewal is due and deleted 14 days after. Unpaid renewals has the full timeline.
