Arch Linux Rolling VPS

A rolling release with no versions, for people who keep it updated and build it up themselves.

Why Arch Linux Rolling

Arch Linux has no versions: packages update continuously, usually soon after their upstream releases. It suits people who already run Arch and want the same system on a server, starting from a minimal base they build up themselves.

When to pick something else

If you want a server you can leave alone for months, pick a fixed release such as Debian 13 or Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. One-click apps don't install on Arch; use a setup script instead.

Support window

Arch Linux Rolling is a rolling release with no end-of-life date: it stays supported as long as you keep it updated.

Rolling updates
No end-of-life date. The system stays current as long as you keep updating it; one left alone for months gets harder to bring up to date.

Keeping it current

Update the whole system with pacman -Syu, and do it regularly: Arch doesn't support partial upgrades. Read the news on archlinux.org before you update, since some updates need manual steps. The image is a dated snapshot, so update it as soon as your server is up.

The image

Your server starts from Arch Linux's own official cloud image, the one the project publishes for cloud servers, checked against its published checksum before it's used. Nothing is added to it but cloud-init's first-boot setup: your network addresses, your SSH keys, your hostname, and any app, packages or setup script you picked. Updates come straight from Arch Linux's repositories with pacman.
